Bb Tenor Yamaha

Yamaha YTS-875 Custom
and
YTS-82Z Custom Z
professional tenor saxophones…

YTS-875 Custom Tenor
The YTS-875 has been discontinued. The new YTS-875 is Yamaha's true professional contender this year. Unfortunately,it's model designitaion is identical to last year's. Feature for feature, it compares with the  Selmer Paris Super Action 80 Serie II tenor. Yamaha modified the former YTS-875 as follows...

  • deleted the inner brace plate on the bow
  • changed to the 2-point bell/body brace from a 3-point brace
  • accentuated the bend in the low Bb key
  • larger, flatter key pearls
  • deleted lyre holder
  • new deluxe case

These photos are of the previous model but are fairly representative of the look of the new YTS-875

YTS-875 E  Honey-gold lacquered, Engraved -
Yamaha use a lacquer with some color in it to impart a warm rich color to the instrument. Engraving on the bell and bow

YTS-875 B  Black lacquered, Engraved
This striking finish comes from black lacquer applied to the body while the keys and the interior of the bell are polished and clear lacquered. Engraving on the bell and bow exposes the golden color of the brass underneath. The whole body is then clear lacquered to protect the engraving from tarnishing.

YTS-875 S  Silver-plated, Engraved
This gorgeous finish is stronger than lacquer and improves tonal brightness and power by virtue of eliminating the high frequency sound absorption of lacquer finishes. Engraving on the bell and bow

YTS-82Z (Custom Z) Tenor
The YTS-82Z Custom Z is Yamaha's newest saxophone. It is positioned just below the YTS-875. It is based on the YTS-62, but with several enhancements including...

  • a new annealed lightweight brass alloy
  • a larger bell with engraving identical to the Custom
  • accentuated the bend in the low Bb key
  • 2-point bell body brace
  • G1 neck
  • a new neck receiver
  • larger neck strap ring
  • an improved octave mechanism.
  • larger, flatter key pearls
  • deleted lyre holder
  • slim ultra lightweight case

YTS-82 Z  Unlacquered Brass, Engraved
This version deletes the finish over the brass to improve tonal brightness and power by virtue of eliminating the high frequency sound absorption of lacquer finishes. Engraving on the bell and bow. Warning... this horn will tarnish.

Overall it has a darker sound than any other current Yamaha but not quite the deeper tone of a solid bronze Yanagisawa A992. It plays easily and with a full sounding bottom end. It's upper register is still somewhat reminiscent of the brighter YAS-875 EX. Its power output is moderate.
